Jenny Aaron was a government assassin, part of an elite unit tracking Germany's most dangerous criminals. She was one of the best, until a disastrous mission ended with her abandoning a wounded colleague and losing her sight forever. Now, five years later, she has learnt to navigate a darkened world, but is haunted by her betrayal. When she is called back to the force to trace a ruthless serial killer, she seizes the opportunity to solve the case and restore her honour.

In the Dark is a book I came across as a book in the customers who views this also looked at section. The description intrigued me as with most of the books in the genre you rely on what our heroes or heroines show us of the case at hand but what if you took that away. What story is left to us the reader. At the same time the mix of a tale of redemption and he hunt for serial killer are always and interesting combination. So it was with great expectation I jumped in to this book.

The collection of characters Pflüger has presented to us in this story are an eclectic  bunch. All struggling to deal with the demons of their past. Aaron comes across as an intriguing heroine. Struggling to deal with her vulnerability she was raised to be the ultimate worrier and cop. So with her blindness she has to find new ways to compensate. As her opposite we have the devious Holm. A man who is determined and single mind. He will achieve what he set out to do and have every one Else  follow his tune.  At time these characters come across as two sides of the same sword. Both counterparts have a team to back them up. Each of these team mates are given some time to make them feel real. All adding to story.

The author has crafted an interning plot for us to follow. His writing draws us easily through his cast and the story. What starts out as a psychological thriller at times comes across as a lament on the very nature of police officers  and villains. Both trying to fight for what they believe is right. He does a great job of drawing us in to the tail he gives us. The action swaps between the present and five years earlier giving us the lead up to Aaron becoming blind.

Over all I found this a greatly interesting read. It didn't take me long to get through the book and I'm glad I spent some time with it. The only thing I could find to not pick about was that some of the translations was a bit off. Hopefully by the time this comes out in physical addition they will have sorted this out. If your looking for an intriguing and at times thought provoking tale give this one a go.
