Vivian Miller is a CIA analyst assigned to uncover Russian sleeper cells in the USA. After accessing the computer of a potential Russian spy, she stumbles on a secret dossier of deep-cover agents living in her own country. Five seemingly normal people living in plain sight. A few clicks later, everything that matters to Vivian is threatened - her job, her husband, even her four children

I was recommended this book by a friend, she had just finished reading it and couldn't stop talking about how great it was. Not so long ago I finished reading red sparrow and thought it might be good to jump into another spy thriller. With all the talk of Russian spy that has been swirling around the news lately, this book seemed like an apt read. It also sounds a little more grounded in reality which is a style I enjoy greatly.

On the outside, the Miller family seem like every other all American family. Hard working loyal and trying to better themselves. It is only because of Vivian's job that the perfect lives completely fall apart. It's interesting to see the way her mind works in this book, At times being forced to walk a narrow line between loyalty to her job and that of her family. I like the way the author has put her heroine in a completely impossible situation, even after finishing it I'm still not sure what I would do in her situation. She is someone who is brave and resourceful and cares a great deal about the people in her life. But this can also lead to her being blindsided but certain events. Can we truly know the people we chose to hold close to us? For me, they felt like each of the characters fit in there place and were given an appropriate amount of time within the pages.

This book managed to cover a lot of ground in it's three hundred pages, The author has clearly planned with meticulous detail every twist and turn. She mages to lead the reader on a merry dance, every time I thought I had a handle on who you could trust things shifted and I was left trying to work it out all over again. As a spy thriller, it is defiantly a great read, but I think it goes beyond this. Due to the family setting to me, it also felt like a psychological thriller. It adds another layer to this book, In part, this works so well by having a woman as our lead. It would be all too easy to go down the road of violence and murder in books such as these. The author moves away from this and I think try's to keep it a little be more grounded in the real world. She expertly brings us into the world of the CIA and all it entails. This is a place where inelegance mixes with experience in a game of chess at the highest level.

Her ability to create a paranoid web of secrets is one of the highlights of the book. Overall it flows well and will keep the reader captivated by both the story and the people she has created, It is difficult to go into much detail about what takes place as I would not want to take away anything from you reading the book your selves, just know is a great book to spend an afternoon with.
